Hitachi Rail is at the forefront of delivering next-generation rolling stock. We don't just build trains; we keep them moving. We are looking for an experienced Shift Manager to take the helm of our maintenance operations, ensuring our fleet meets the highest standards of safety, reliability, and performance.
This isn't just a "supervisory" role. You will be the operational heartbeat of the depot, driving a culture of continuous improvement and mentoring a diverse team of technicians to deliver excellence in a modern, fast-paced rail environment.
As a Shift Manager, you hold the keys to the depot's success. Your focus will be split across three critical pillars:
Operational Excellence: You'll be responsible for the safe movement of rolling stock and ensuring the fleet meets contractual availability. You'll oversee everything from daily communication meetings to managing the SAP Maintenance Management System (MMS).
Leadership & Development: You will recruit, mentor, and assess a large technical team. You'll be the point of contact for behavioural standards, staff appraisals, and professional development, fostering a "one-team" culture.
Safety & Process: Health and Safety is our North Star. You will write operational procedures, manage COSHH and manual handling protocols, and work closely with QHSE engineers to mitigate risks in a high-pressure environment.
We are looking for a seasoned rail professional who stays calm under pressure and leads by example.
Technical Foundation: An Mechanical & Electrical Engineering HNC or a served engineering apprenticeship is essential.
Rail Expertise: You have proven experience in a modern rolling stock maintenance depot, including preventative/corrective maintenance and remote diagnostics.
Leadership Credential: You are a qualified assessor with experience managing large, diverse technical teams and a strong handle on IOSH or NEBOSH safety standards.
Tech Savvy: You are comfortable using PC-based fault-finding tools and navigating complex Maintenance Management Systems (SAP).
The "Hitachi" Mindset: You are loyal, determined, and professional, capable of representing the brand to everyone from shop-floor teams to senior Directors.
At Hitachi, we offer more than just a job. We offer a career where you can contribute to a sustainable future. You will work with cutting-edge technology, receive ongoing professional development, and be part of a team that values equality, safety, and innovation.
