The Role:
As a Freelance Site Manager, you will be responsible for the day-to-day management and supervision of all site activities related to overhead line installation. Your key responsibilities will include:
Project Delivery: Overseeing and driving the successful delivery of overhead line installation works, ensuring adherence to project timelines, budgets, and quality standards.
Health & Safety Leadership: Implementing and enforcing stringent health and safety protocols on site, ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations and company policies.
National Grid Appointed Person: Acting as a National Grid Appointed Person (AP) or working closely with an appointed AP, ensuring all work on or near National Grid assets is carried out safely and in accordance with their strict procedures.
Subcontractor Management: Effectively managing and coordinating multiple subcontractors, ensuring their performance meets project requirements, safety standards, and agreed upon scopes of work. This includes:
Pre-start meetings and mobilisation.
Performance monitoring and reporting.
Problem resolution and dispute management.
Ensuring compliance with method statements and risk assessments.
Site Management: Managing all aspects of site operations, including logistics, plant, materials, and personnel.
Quality Assurance: Implementing and overseeing quality control procedures to ensure all works meet the required specifications and industry standards.
Reporting: Providing regular, accurate, and timely reports on project progress, health and safety performance, and any issues arising to the Project Manager.
Stakeholder Liaison: Building and maintaining strong working relationships with clients, National Grid representatives, subcontractors, and other key stakeholders.
Problem Solving: Proactively identifying and resolving any technical or operational challenges that may arise on site.
About You:
Proven experience (minimum [X] years) as a Site Manager specifically on overhead line installation projects within the energy sector.
Essential: Current or recent experience as a National Grid Appointed Person (AP) or demonstrable experience working extensively under an AP on National Grid projects.
Strong understanding of overhead line construction methodologies, techniques, and equipment.
Demonstrable experience in effective subcontractor management, including performance monitoring, quality control, and issue resolution.
Excellent knowledge of health, safety, and environmental legislation and best practices.
Relevant industry qualifications (e.g., SMSTS, CSCS, First Aid).
Exceptional leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Strong organisational and planning abilities with a keen eye for detail.
Ability to work independently and as part of a wider project team.
Full UK driving license and willingness to travel extensively across various project sites.
