Site Manager - Highways & Groundworks

We are urgently seeking an experienced and proactive Site Manager to lead a £2 million highways and civils project near Manston Airport, Kent. You will be working for a specialist contractor on a Bellway Homes housing development, responsible for delivering crucial Section 278 works that connect the new estate to the existing carriageway.
This is a key role requiring strong leadership and technical expertise in highways and groundworks to ensure the project is delivered safely, on time, and to the highest standard.
Key Responsibilities:
- Site & Team Management: Lead and organise operational teams of 6-12 staff on the ground, managing all site activities effectively.
- Project Delivery: Oversee all groundworks, services, and civils, with a focus on Section 278 works and traffic management.
- Client Liaison: Act as the main point of contact for the client (Bellway Homes), providing regular progress updates, attending site meetings, and ensuring customer satisfaction.
- Commercial & Reporting: Work closely with the Quantity Surveyor on monthly applications, variations, and early warning notices. You will also provide weekly progress and commercial tracking reports to the business owners.
- Streetworks & Permitting: Manage all aspects of streetworks, including a solid understanding of permits, submitting road space applications, and liaising with Kent County Council (KCC) inspectors.
- Health, Safety & Quality: Take full responsibility for all safety and quality paperwork, ensuring compliance across the site.
- Supply Chain Management: Coordinate the supply chain, including tankers, surveys, and traffic management implementation.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- Essential Experience: A proven background in managing highways, civil engineering, and groundworks projects is required.
- Essential Tickets:
- SMSTS (Site Management Safety Training Scheme)
- CSCS Card (Gold or Black is ideal)
- First Aid at Work
- Desirable Experience & Tickets:
- Experience with projects involving a water element is ideal.
- Temporary Works certificate
- Streetwork Supervisor ticket (NRSWA)
