Site Utilities Technician
Location: Manchester
Salary: £17.75 base rate per hour (overtime rates apply)
We're looking for a skilled Site Utilities Technician to join our team and support the execution of our site's utilities planned maintenance strategy. If you have strong technical experience with mechanical systems (like AHUs, chillers, and cooling towers) and a focus on safety, quality, and technical mastery, we want to hear from you!
Key Responsibilities
As a Site Utilities Technician, you will be essential to ensuring our site utilities are reliable and efficient. Your duties will include:
- Supporting the execution of the utilities planned maintenance strategy.
- Working with a range of mechanical equipment, including AHUs, cooling towers, water chillers, glycol systems, pumps, motors, and fans.
- Participating in the defect handling system, carrying out daily inspection tours to identify and fix defects.
- Managing 3rd party contractors, including writing work permits and supervising their work with a key focus on excellence in safety and quality.
- Owning small mechanical improvement projects for the department.
- Standardising methods and processes through the creation of technical standards.
What We're Looking For (Required Skills)
To be successful in this role, you should have:
- Ideally, a Time served apprenticeship to NVQ Level 3 (Mechanical or Electrical), or proven competency through experience.
- Qualifications to work at height and operate MEWPS.
- Experience and proven competency in sub-contractor management.
- Good computer skills, especially with Microsoft Office applications.
- Technical mastery with excellent troubleshooting skills and good attention to detail.
- The ability to work under your own initiative.
Note on Technology: This role is one of two similar positions requiring comparable skills, but they work on different types of technology. Candidates may have varied experiences based on this.
Beneficial (But Not Required) Skills
The following training and experience would be an advantage:
- IOSH and relevant Permit training (General Work Permit, Working at Height, Confined Space, Construction, Hot Work).
- Other training such as lifting and slinging, legionella awareness, and confined space entry.
Additional Benefits & Information
- On-Call Rota: You will need to join an on-call rota within your team.
- This pays an additional premium of £110 for each week Rota'd.
- Additional payments at the overtime rate are provided if you are required to attend the site.
- Interview Process: Suitable candidates will be invited for an on-site interview.
- The interview includes a site tour to see the facilities and technology and meet the team.
- Interviews are short and sweet, approximately 45 minutes, with the overall process taking 1-1.5 hours.
