Job Title: Social Worker - Child Protection Team
Location: Nottingham City Council (various locations across Nottingham)
Hourly Rate: £32.66 per hour

Nottingham City Council is looking for an experienced and passionate Social Worker to join our challenging yet rewarding Child Protection Team. We are dedicated to providing robust protection and support to children who are at risk of significant harm, ensuring their safety and promoting their best interests.
About the Role:
As a Social Worker in our Child Protection Team, you will manage a complex caseload involving children subject to child protection plans, pre-proceedings, and court work. You will be responsible for undertaking thorough assessments, devising and implementing effective safety plans, and working intensively with families and partner agencies to mitigate risk and promote positive change.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and participate in complex child protection investigations, Section 47 enquiries, and risk assessments.
- Develop, implement, and review child protection plans, ensuring they effectively address identified risks.
- Prepare high-quality reports and statements for Child Protection Conferences, pre-proceedings meetings, and court hearings.
- Represent the local authority in court proceedings, providing expert evidence and recommendations.
- Undertake direct work with children, young people, and their families to build relationships and facilitate positive change.
- Work collaboratively with police, health professionals, schools, and other partner agencies to ensure a coordinated response to child protection concerns.
- Maintain accurate, up-to-date, and legally compliant records using relevant IT systems.
- Adhere strictly to statutory guidance, legislation, and Nottingham City Council policies and procedures related to child protection.
What We Are Looking For:
- A qualified Social Worker with current Social Work England (SWE) registration.
- Significant post-qualifying experience in a frontline Child Protection or Duty & Assessment team.
- In-depth knowledge of relevant children's legislation, statutory guidance, and best practice in child protection (e.g., Children Act 1989 & 2004, Working Together to Safeguard Children).
- Demonstrable experience in undertaking complex risk assessments, S47 enquiries, and court work.
- Excellent analytical, decision-making, and problem-solving skills, often in high-pressure situations.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with children, families, and professionals from diverse backgrounds.
- Resilience, emotional intelligence, and the ability to manage the demands of child protection work.
- Proficiency in using IT systems for case management and record-keeping.
- Full UK driving license and access to a car for work purposes.
