The Opportunity:
Are you a passionate, resilient, and experienced Social Worker with a strong commitment to child protection? Leicestershire County Council is looking for a highly motivated Social Worker to join our dedicated Child Protection Team. This is a critical role where you will play a vital part in assessing risk, implementing robust plans, and ensuring the safety and well-being of children and young people at risk of significant harm.
Key Responsibilities:
As a Social Worker in our Child Protection Team, you will:
Undertake comprehensive and analytical assessments of complex situations involving children at risk of significant harm, including Section 47 enquiries.
Develop, implement, and review Child Protection Plans, ensuring they are robust, child-focused, and address identified risks effectively.
Lead and participate in Child Protection Conferences, actively contributing to multi-agency decision-making and planning.
Conduct direct work with children and families, building meaningful relationships to understand their lived experiences and empower them to make positive changes.
Work collaboratively with a wide range of multi-agency partners, including Police, Health, Education, and other specialist services, to ensure coordinated support and intervention.
Prepare high-quality, evidence-based reports for statutory meetings and court proceedings, presenting clear and concise recommendations.
Maintain accurate, timely, and comprehensive case records on the electronic case management system.
Adhere to all safeguarding policies and procedures, ensuring the welfare of children is paramount at all times.
Participate in regular professional supervision and team meetings, contributing to a culture of reflective practice and continuous improvement.
What We Are Looking For:
A qualified Social Worker with current registration with Social Work England.
Minimum 3 years post-qualifying experience in children's social work, specifically within a front-line Child Protection, Safeguarding, or Duty & Assessment team.
Strong knowledge and understanding of relevant children's social care legislation, statutory guidance, and policies (e.g., Children Act 1989/2004, Working Together to Safeguard Children).
Excellent assessment, analytical, and decision-making skills, with the ability to manage complex situations under pressure and make sound judgements.
Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, capable of building rapport and engaging effectively with children, families (including those with complex needs), and professionals from diverse backgrounds.
A commitment to strengths-based and restorative practice, empowering families to make positive changes.
The ability to prioritise and manage a demanding caseload efficiently and meet statutory deadlines.
A valid UK driving license and access to a vehicle for work purposes across the county.
