Key Responsibilities and Role Focus
This is a demanding, high-impact role requiring significant experience in child protection. Your primary focus will be:
- High-Volume Assessment: Carrying out a high volume of timely, thorough, and analytical Child Protection Assessments across diverse family structures and circumstances.
- Complex Casework Management: Managing a challenging caseload that includes complex and high-risk child protection cases, from initial referral through to statutory intervention and review.
- Court Work: Preparing and presenting comprehensive reports for Children's Hearings and Sheriff Court, and providing expert testimony as required.
- Risk Management: Conducting precise and evidence-based risk assessments and implementing robust safety plans to protect children from harm.
- Multi-Agency Collaboration: Working closely with Police Scotland, Health colleagues, education providers, and third-sector agencies to coordinate effective, multi-disciplinary interventions.
Qualifications and Skills:
- A degree in Social Work or an equivalent qualification recognised by the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC).
- Current SSSC registration as a social worker.
Essential Criteria:
- Experience: Significant post-qualification experience in a statutory Children and Families setting, with a proven track record of managing complex child protection caseloads.
- Legal Knowledge: Expert-level knowledge of relevant Scottish legislation, including the Children's Hearings (Scotland) Act 2011 and the Social Work (Scotland) Act 1968.
- Assessment Skills: Exceptional ability to gather, analyse, and synthesise complex information under pressure to inform professional judgments.
- Resilience: Demonstrated emotional resilience and ability to maintain professional effectiveness when dealing with highly distressing and challenging situations.
