Our Children in Need Team plays a vital role in providing timely and effective support to families, empowering them to overcome challenges and achieve positive outcomes for their children, often preventing the need for more intensive interventions.
The Role:
As a Social Worker in the Children in Need Team, you will manage a varied caseload of children and families where needs have been identified but do not meet the threshold for child protection. Your primary focus will be on:
- Undertaking comprehensive Child in Need assessments to identify strengths and needs within families.
- Developing, implementing, and regularly reviewing Child in Need Plans in partnership with children, families, and other professionals.
- Working directly with children and their families to build relationships, identify solutions, and support positive change.
- Collaborating effectively with a range of multi-agency partners, including Early Help services, schools, health visitors, and other community resources.
- Promoting the voice of the child throughout all stages of assessment and planning.
- Maintaining accurate, analytical, and timely electronic records in line with statutory requirements and local policies.
- Identifying and escalating safeguarding concerns promptly where thresholds are met for child protection intervention.
About You:
We are looking for a committed and skilled Social Worker with:
- A recognised Social Work qualification.
- Current registration with Social Work England.
- Minimum 3 years post qualifying experience working with children and families in a social care setting, ideally within a Children in Need or similar frontline team.
- A strong understanding of relevant legislation, including the Children Act 1989 and Working Together to Safeguard Children.
- Excellent assessment, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport and work collaboratively.
- The ability to manage a diverse caseload effectively and prioritise tasks.
- A commitment to strengths-based and child-centred practice.
- A full UK driving licence and access to a car for business use (or ability to travel efficiently around the area).
