Shropshire Council is seeking an enthusiastic Fostering Social Worker to join our supportive and child-centred Fostering Service. This is a vital role where you will play a key part in recruiting, assessing, and supporting our amazing foster carers, ultimately providing stable and nurturing homes for children and young people.
About the Role:
As a Fostering Social Worker, you will be instrumental in the recruitment, assessment, and ongoing support of foster carers within Shropshire. Your work will directly contribute to securing safe, stable, and loving environments for children who cannot live with their birth families.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Undertaking robust assessments of prospective foster carers from initial enquiry through to presentation at fostering panel, ensuring they meet the required standards.
- Providing ongoing supervision, support, and training to approved foster carers, empowering them to provide high-quality care.
- Working collaboratively with children in care teams, other agencies, and foster carers to ensure placement stability and positive outcomes for children.
- Responding to and investigating allegations or concerns regarding foster carers in line with safeguarding policies and procedures.
- Participating in fostering panel meetings and presenting assessment reports.
- Maintaining accurate and up-to-date records and preparing reports for various purposes.
- Contributing to the recruitment activities of the fostering service.
About You:
We are looking for a qualified Social Worker with a genuine interest in fostering and a commitment to children's well-being. You will need:
- A recognised Social Work qualification.
- Current Social Work England registration.
- Experience in children's social work, ideally with some exposure to fostering, looked after children, or child protection.
- A strong understanding of fostering regulations, standards, and relevant legislation (e.g., Children Act 1989, Fostering Services Regulations 2011).
- Excellent assessment, analytical, and report-writing skills.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build rapport and work effectively with a diverse range of individuals.
- The ability to work autonomously and manage a caseload effectively, as well as being a valuable team player.
- A commitment to reflective practice and continuous professional development.
