The Role: Special Educational Needs (SEN) LSA
We are seeking a highly motivated, sensitive, and physically resilient SEN Learning Support Assistant (LSA) to work within our specialist setting. This challenging yet profoundly rewarding role involves providing comprehensive support, ensuring the safety, comfort, and engagement of pupils with the highest level of need. Experience with specialist equipment and personal care is highly desirable.

Key Responsibilities:
- Provide direct, high-level personal care support including feeding, toileting, dressing, and mobility assistance, strictly adhering to care plans and manual handling protocols.
- Support pupils' access to specialised therapies (e.g., physiotherapy, occupational therapy, speech and language) within class and dedicated sessions.
- Operate and maintain specialist equipment such as hoists, wheelchairs, standing frames, and communication aids (e.g., switches, eye-gaze technology).
- Implement sensory programmes and communication strategies (e.g., Makaton, objects of reference) to facilitate pupil interaction and engagement with the environment.
- Assist the class teacher and therapy team in documenting detailed daily observations regarding pupil response, health, and achievement of non-academic goals.
- Ensure the pupil's safety and well-being at all times, including monitoring medical conditions and administering basic first aid/medication under strict guidance.
- Create a stimulating and responsive learning environment that actively promotes sensory exploration, choice-making, and comfort.
What We Are Looking For
- Proven, recent experience working with children or young people with complex medical needs, PMLD, or severe physical disabilities.
- Certification or practical experience in manual handling/hoisting and intimate personal care.
- Exceptional patience, empathy, and a gentle, caring manner essential for working with highly vulnerable pupils.
- The ability to observe and interpret non-verbal cues and complex communication methods.
- A proactive approach to health and safety and a high level of physical fitness to meet the demands of the role.
- Excellent teamwork skills and a willingness to work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team (Nurses, Physiotherapists, etc.).
- A genuine commitment to the holistic development and dignity of every pupil.
