The Role: Special Educational Needs (SEN) Teaching Assistant
We are seeking a compassionate and experienced SEN Teaching Assistant (TA) to provide targeted, one-to-one and small group support to pupils with a diverse range of special educational needs (which may include Autism Spectrum Disorder, Speech and Language Needs, Moderate Learning Difficulties, or Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs). This is a crucial role focused on implementing individual education plans (IEPs) and fostering independence, communication, and confidence.

Key Roles and Responsibilities
- Implement and evaluate specific learning, behavioral, and therapeutic programs outlined in pupil's Individual Education Plans (IEPs).
- Provide highly tailored one-to-one support to enable pupils to access the curriculum and achieve their learning targets.
- Assist the class teacher in adapting lessons and materials to meet the specific needs and learning styles of SEN pupils.
- Support pupils during transitions, break times, and lunchtimes, promoting positive social interaction and inclusion.
- Observe, record, and report on pupil progress, feeding back effectively to the SENCo (Special Educational Needs Coordinator) and parents.
- Assist with personal care tasks for specific pupils, if required (training will be provided).
- Work closely with external professionals (e.g., Speech and Language Therapists, Educational Psychologists) to deliver integrated support.
What We're Looking For
- Proven experience supporting children with identified Special Educational Needs in an educational setting.
- Relevant qualifications or training relating to specific SEN needs (e.g., ASD, Phonics, Makaton, PECS) are highly desirable.
- Exceptional patience, resilience, and sensitivity to the needs and feelings of vulnerable children.
- Excellent communication and listening skills to build trust and rapport with pupils, staff, and parents.
- A proactive, reflective approach and the ability to use initiative to solve problems in the moment.
- Strong commitment to confidentiality and safeguarding practices.
- A good understanding of strategies to support social, emotional, and mental health needs.
