Your Responsibilities as an SEN Teaching Assistant:
Collaborate with children individually (1:1) or in small groups to enhance their learning.
Serve as a positive role model for both students and colleagues.
Foster positive relationships with children and their families, ensuring clear communication.
Collaborate with fellow staff members, including SENCOs and external specialists.
Assist the class teacher in adapting resources and activity setup to meet SEN requirements.
Help prepare a lesson and tidy the classroom afterwards.
Provide assistance with EHCP (Educational Health and Care Plan) targets.
Support children across the curriculum using tailored learning strategies.
Give focused, extra support to children with various special needs (e.g., ASD, ADHD, SEMH).
Help mark work and record student progress observations.
Report student milestones and challenges to the class teacher and SENCO.
Help look after the children during school trips and activities.
Look after children that are unwell.
Attend annual reviews and staff meetings.
Confidence in guiding individuals with complex needs.
A positive attitude and effective communication skills.
Essential requirements:
TA Qualified (Level 2 or 3).
Experience working with children with Special Educational Needs.
Strong class management and de-escalation skills.
Comfort managing challenging behaviour with patience and empathy.
Able to engage with and motivate children with learning barriers.
Knowledge of SEN strategies (e.g., PECS, Makaton, or sensory support).
