Cambridge
Are you a sports coach, personal trainer, or active TA who believes that the playing field is where the most important life lessons are learned?
Do you have the energy to inspire students who struggle in a traditional classroom but find their confidence through movement, teamwork, and physical challenge?
We are seeking a high-energy, proactive Sports Teaching Assistant to join a premier SEN School in Cambridge. This role is designed for someone who can use physical education as a tool for emotional regulation and social development. You will be supporting students with Autism (ASC) and Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, helping them turn physical energy into positive achievement.
Your Active Impact: Responsibilities
- Active Intervention: Assist in delivering adapted PE lessons, including football, athletics, trampolining, and sensory circuits tailored to individual student abilities.
- Co-Regulation through Sport: Use physical activity as a de-escalation tool, helping students manage frustration and anxiety through guided movement and "brain breaks."
- Social Skills Coaching: Facilitate team games that teach vital lessons in turn-taking, winning and losing gracefully, and effective communication.
- 1:1 Academic Support: Bridge the gap between the gym and the classroom by supporting students in core subjects, using sports-based metaphors and active learning to keep them engaged.
- Mentorship: Act as a positive, active role model, building strong rapport with students who may have had negative experiences with traditional authority figures.
- Inclusive Participation: Ensure that every student, regardless of their physical or cognitive barriers, has the opportunity to participate and feel the "win" of physical success.
What You'll Bring to the Team
- Athletic Background: Experience in sports coaching, personal training, or a strong personal background in competitive or recreational sports.
- Boundless Energy: The physical stamina to be "on the move" all day, transitioning from the sports hall to the classroom with a positive attitude.
- Resilient Mentality: The ability to remain calm and supportive when a student becomes dysregulated, using your rapport to guide them back to a steady state.
- Adaptable Instruction: A knack for simplifying the rules of a game or a task to ensure it is accessible and fun for neurodiverse learners.
- Compliance: An enhanced Child DBS on the Update Service (or a willingness to process one urgently via Randstad).
