Supervised Contact Worker
Up to £24 per hour
Kendal area
Duties
Active Monitoring: Maintaining "sight and sound" supervision at all times during contact sessions to ensure the child's safety and well-being.
Intervention: Step in immediately if contact becomes unsafe, or if the agreed-upon "Contact Agreement" is breached (e.g., a parent making inappropriate comments or trying to share unauthorised information).
Objective Recording: Writing detailed, factual reports after every session. These reports are legal documents used by Social Workers and Courts to decide if contact should increase, decrease, or remain supervised.
Transportation: Many roles involve collecting children from foster placements, transporting them safely to the contact centre, and returning them afterwards.
Venue Management: Ensuring the contact room is child-friendly, equipped with toys or activities, and left tidy.
Coordination: Managing the "handover" process, often ensuring that birth parents and foster carers do not come into direct contact if there is high conflict or a risk of friction.
Parenting Support: Providing subtle guidance or "role modeling" to parents (e.g., suggesting a game to play or helping a parent understand a child's cues).
Emotional Support: Managing the emotions of both the child and the parent. This includes helping a child settle in if they are anxious and de-escalating tension if a parent becomes frustrated.
Risk Assessment: Constantly assessing the physical and emotional risks during a session.
Court Attendance: While rare, you may be called to court to give evidence based on the reports you have written regarding the quality of the parent-child interaction.
Communication: Alerting the allocated Social Worker immediately if any significant safeguarding concerns arise.
