The Role

We are seeking an experienced practitioner to join the Support and Protect Team in Carlisle. This is a frontline role focused on providing high-quality support and robust protection for children in need and those at risk of significant harm.

Key Responsibilities
Assessment & Planning: Undertake statutory assessments under the Children Act 1989, including Child & Family Assessments and Section 47 investigations.
Caseload Management: Manage a complex caseload involving Children in Need (CiN), Child Protection (CP) plans, and children subject to Public Law Outline (PLO) or care proceedings.
Intervention: Develop and implement outcome-focused care and safety plans, ensuring the "voice of the child" is at the heart of every decision.
Court Work: Prepare high-quality reports for Initial and Review Child Protection Conferences, Core Group meetings, and represent the local authority in court proceedings.
Collaboration: Work closely with multi-agency partners-including schools, police, and health services-to ensure a coordinated approach to safeguarding.
Requirements
Qualifications: A degree in Social Work (BA, BSc, MA, or MSc).
Registration: Current registration with Social Work England.
Experience: Substantial post-qualifying experience (ideally 3+ years) within a statutory Child Protection or Safeguarding environment.
Skills: Exceptional report-writing skills, the ability to manage risk effectively under pressure, and strong interpersonal skills to engage with hard-to-reach families.
Compliance: An enhanced DBS check (Child Barred List) and a valid driving license with access to a vehicle for travel across the Carlisle area.
