Support Worker Children's
We are seeking a dedicated and resilient Support Worker to join our team, providing high-quality care and support to young people with Emotional and Behavioural Difficulties (EBD) in a residential setting. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in creating a safe, nurturing, and therapeutic environment, helping residents to develop essential life skills, manage challenging behaviours, and achieve their personal goals.
🎯 Key Responsibilities
Direct Care and Support: Provide daily support, including assisting with personal care (where necessary), preparing meals, administering medication (following training and policy), and helping young people access education, leisure activities, and appointments.
Behaviour Management: Implement individual care plans and therapeutic strategies to manage challenging behaviour, de-escalate crisis situations, and ensure the safety and well-being of all residents and staff.
Safety and Restraint: Safely and professionally use physical restraint techniques only when absolutely necessary and in line with our training and procedures, holding the safety of the young person paramount.
Nurturing Environment: Create and maintain a supportive, predictable, and homely atmosphere where young people feel valued, respected, and listened to.
Record Keeping: Maintain accurate, detailed, and timely records of observations, incidents, medication administration, and daily activities in accordance with regulatory requirements (e.g., Ofsted).
Promoting Development: Support and encourage the young people's educational attainment, social development, and independence skills (e.g., cooking, budgeting, self-care).
Teamwork and Communication: Work effectively as part of a staff team, communicate clearly and professionally with colleagues, external professionals (social workers, therapists, teachers), and families.
Adherence to Standards: Ensure all practices comply with relevant children's home regulations, safeguarding policies, and the home's statement of purpose.
✅ Essential Requirements
Experience: A minimum of six (6) months of professional experience working with children or young people, ideally within a residential, care, or challenging behaviour setting.
Restraint Training: Must possess a valid, in-date certificate from a recognised physical intervention/restraint training provider (e.g., PRICE, Team Teach, MAPA, MAYBO). This is a mandatory requirement for the role.
Skills: Proven ability to manage and de-escalate challenging behaviour calmly and effectively.
Knowledge: Good understanding of the issues facing young people with EBD and the principles of safeguarding and child protection.
Personal Attributes: Resilience, patience, empathy, excellent communication skills, and a commitment to positive outcomes for young people.
Background Checks: Willingness to undergo an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check and satisfactory references.
This will be predominanantly long day sleep shifts.
