Cambridge
Are you ready to move beyond the classroom and help a young person navigate the real world?
We are seeking a dedicated and active SEN Support Worker to join our partner SEN School in Cambridge. This role is perfectly suited for someone who believes that education doesn't just happen at a desk-it happens in the kitchen, at the local shops, and on the bus. You will be working with young adults with Autism (ASC) and Moderate Learning Difficulties (MLD), focusing on the vital transition from school to independent living.
Your Practical Impact: Responsibilities
- Life Skills Coaching: Assist students in developing "Active Daily Living" skills, including meal preparation, laundry, and personal organisation.
- Community Outreach: Accompany students into the Cambridge community to practice road safety, use public transport, and manage small budgets during shopping trips.
- Vocational Support: Work alongside students in internal or external work-experience placements, helping them understand workplace expectations and social cues.
- Emotional Regulation: Act as a "co-regulator," using your rapport to help students manage anxiety or sensory overwhelm when in unfamiliar or busy environments.
- Physical Wellbeing: Support students in accessing local sports facilities, parks, or hydrotherapy sessions to promote a healthy and active lifestyle.
- Progress Reporting: Maintain detailed daily logs that contribute to EHCP reviews, specifically focusing on "Preparation for Adulthood" outcomes.
What You'll Bring to the Team
- Resilient Patience: The ability to step back and let a student try a task for themselves, providing just the right amount of "scaffolded" support.
- Proactive Energy: A "can-do" attitude-you are happy to be on your feet, moving between different settings and supporting students in various practical tasks.
- Strong Communication: The ability to adapt your language and use visual aids (like Now-and-Next boards) to ensure instructions are clear and stress-free.
- Relevant Experience: Backgrounds in care, youth work, hospitality, or SEN are highly valued. We value your "soft skills" and your ability to build trust quickly.
- Compliance: An enhanced Child & Adult DBS on the Update Service (or a willingness to process one urgently through Randstad).
Why Partner with Randstad?

- Cambridge Hub: Work in one of the UK's most vibrant cities, using the local environment as a canvas for student learning.
