A fantastic opportunity has arisen for an Unqualified SEN Teacher to join a leading specialist provision in Cambridge. This Full-Time long-term contract is designed for a dedicated professional who can step up and take the lead. You will be responsible for managing a small class of students with diverse needs, such as Autism (ASC) and SEMH, ensuring they have access to a curriculum that is both challenging and supportive.
Key Responsibilities
- Classroom Delivery: Plan and facilitate creative, hands-on lessons that are differentiated to meet the unique learning styles of your students.
- Staff Leadership: Mentor and direct a team of Teaching Assistants to ensure students receive high-quality 1:1 and small group support.
- Student Advocacy: Track and record student milestones, providing feedback that contributes to their EHCP reviews and personal development goals.
- Positive Environment: Implement de-escalation techniques and positive behavior strategies to foster a safe, low-anxiety learning space.
- Adaptive Learning: Utilise sensory aids, visual timetables, and practical activities to make complex concepts accessible and engaging.
- Professional Collaboration: Work alongside the school's leadership and therapeutic teams to maintain a holistic approach to student well-being.
Requirements
- Proven SEN Experience: Significant experience working with children or young adults with Autism, learning disabilities, or SEMH.
- Classroom Confidence: Previous experience in a leadership or instructional capacity (e.g., HLTA, Cover Supervisor, or specialist instructor).
- Adaptability: The ability to pivot your teaching style in real-time to support the emotional and sensory needs of your pupils.
- Communication: Excellent interpersonal skills to build trust with students and maintain professional relationships with staff and families.
- Resilience: A calm and patient demeanor, even when faced with challenging situations.
- Compliance: An enhanced Child DBS on the update service (or willingness to obtain one).
