We are currently representing a fantastic specialist school in Thetford that is looking for a talented Unqualified SEN Teacher to lead a class. This is a Full-Time long-term contract where you will be responsible for the daily education and well-being of a small group of students with diverse needs, including Autism (ASC) and Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) challenges. This role offers the perfect balance of leadership and hands-on support in a highly rewarding environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Leading the Way: Take charge of planning and delivering engaging, practical lessons that cater to a wide range of abilities and learning barriers.
- Managing the Room: Lead and coordinate a team of Teaching Assistants, ensuring they have clear direction to support individual student targets effectively.
- Behaviour for Learning: Champion positive behaviour strategies and de-escalation techniques to ensure a safe, productive, and low-stress classroom.
- Documenting Success: Observe and record student progress, providing valuable insights for EHCP reviews and individual learning plans.
- Sensory Integration: Adapt your teaching style to include sensory-based activities and visual aids that help students engage with the world around them.
- Collaboration: Be an active member of the school community, working with senior staff and parents to ensure a unified approach to student growth.
Requirements
- Substantial SEN Background: Significant experience working with children or young people with Autism, ADHD, or SEMH needs.
- Leadership Potential: Previous experience as an HLTA, Cover Supervisor, or Lead Support Worker where you have had to lead a group or manage other staff.
- Emotional Intelligence: A high level of patience and the ability to read and respond to the non-verbal cues and emotional needs of your students.
- Proactive Attitude: The ability to plan creative lessons and step up to the responsibilities of a class lead with confidence.
- Team Spirit: A collaborative approach to working within a multidisciplinary team.
- Compliance: An enhanced Child DBS on the update service (or willingness to apply for one).
