What do social workers do?

There are two key categories when it comes to social work – clinical social work and non-clinical social work.

A clinical social worker is someone who helps vulnerable children and adults, people at risk of abuse and families who need support. No two days are the same in this role and, while challenging, most also find it an incredibly fulfilling role. Non-clinical social workers develop and put into place programmes and services, managing these so that they work effectively. Non-clinical roles, by their nature, command greater social worker salaries.

Many choose a career in social work for the rewarding aspect of the job and the opportunity to help the community. If you are keen to find out what a day in the life of a social worker looks like then view our guide to learn more.
