Randstad has found more teachers are planning to stay in the classroom this year. A survey of 1,500 teaching professionals revealed 33% want to stay put, up from 27% last year.
The increase came despite almost half of teachers (46%) wracking up 10 hours of overtime a week, 52% sacrificing social engagements to do classwork and a whopping 84% not expecting a promotion in the next 12 months.
The study also found schools face a challenge motivating teachers in their 30s and 40s, who are most likely to consider leaving the profession and potentially cause a skills shortage for experienced teachers.
