Randstad is seeking an Adults Social Worker to join a reputable organization dedicated to providing high-quality social work services. This role offers a unique opportunity to make a significant impact on the lives of individuals within the community.
Primary Purpose
An AMHP at Oldham plays a statutory role, under the Mental Health Act 1983 (as amended in 2007), in coordinating, assessing, and making legally binding decisions regarding the detention of individuals experiencing mental health crises
- Mental Health Act Assessments
...
- Receive and triage requests for MHA assessments.
- Organise and participate in assessments alongside two doctors (including at least one Section 12 approved psychiatrist)
- Determine whether a formal application for detention (e.g., under Section 2 or 3) should be made.
- Arrange safe and dignified conveyance to hospital when required
Legal Decision-Making & Documentation
- Ensure all processes adhere to the Mental Health Act, Mental Capacity Act, Care Act, and Human Rights Act
- Accurately document decisions and prepare high-quality reports for tribunals, courts, and care planning .
- Record information in electronic systems for traceability and compliance .
Coordinating and Communicating
- Lead multi-disciplinary assessments and liaise with health services, housing, police, and voluntary sectors
- Engage with individuals, nearest relatives, and carers-informing them of rights, explaining decisions, and involving them where appropriate
Care and Support Planning
- Conduct holistic assessments under the Care Act to support independence and wellbeing
- Develop person-centred care plans, addressing mental health, safeguarding risks, and reviewing outcomes such as Section 117 aftercare
Duty Rota & On‑Call Support
- Participate in AMHP duty rotas covering daytime and out-of-hours services
- Respond promptly to crisis calls, manage back-up duties, and coordinate safe crisis interventions
Specialist Advice & Mentorship
- Provide expert guidance on MHA, MCA, CTOs, Guardianship, and safeguarding
- Mentor junior AMHP colleagues, trainees, and social workers-supporting best-practice and professional development
Service Improvement, Training & Compliance
- Contribute to service development, reflecting on practice to enhance quality of care
- Maintain AMHP warranting through ongoing training and statutory CPD .
