About the Role
An independent and well-established transport and engineering company is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Auto Electrician / Electrical Technician. This crucial role supports both our core maintenance operations and our specialised sales conversion workshop. You will be responsible for complex electrical fault finding, repairs, installation, and modification work across a diverse range of heavy vehicles.
Key Responsibilities
Advanced Diagnostics: Diagnose and rectify complex electrical faults across vehicle systems, including engine management, transmission control, lighting, vehicle electronics, and CCTV/telematics.
Wiring and Installation: Carry out detailed wiring, harness repair, and installation of new electrical components (e.g., HVAC, charging points, passenger technology) as required for vehicle conversions and upgrades.
Technical Leadership: Act as a senior technical point of contact for the workshop team regarding all electrical matters, mentoring junior staff where necessary.
System Modification: Plan and execute electrical system modifications and upgrades to ensure compliance and optimal performance.
Quality Assurance: Ensure all electrical work meets the highest standards of safety, quality, and industry-specific regulations (e.g., DVSA, manufacturer guidelines).
Hours and Salary
Hours: Monday to Friday, 7:00 AM - 3:00 PM
Salary: £35,000 - £45,000 per annum, dependent on experience and technical proficiency.
Required Skills and Experience
Formal Training: You must possess recognised formal training and substantial industry experience as an Auto Electrician or Electrical Technician.
Sector Background: Proven experience within a Manufacturing or Automotive environment, specifically with Truck, Bus, Coach, or Lorry vehicles.
Advanced Electrical Skills: Expert proficiency in reading and interpreting complex wiring diagrams, schematic layouts, and technical manuals.
Diagnostic Expertise: Highly skilled in using advanced diagnostic tools (e.g., oscilloscopes, specific diagnostic software) for deep-level fault finding.
Proactive and Analytical: Ability to work independently, troubleshoot complex issues methodically, and propose effective, long-term solutions.
Desirable Attributes
An industry-recognised qualification (e.g., City & Guilds, NVQ Level 3 or equivalent) in Auto Electrical or Vehicle Systems.
Experience with multiplex wiring systems and CAN-Bus technology.
Experience installing and maintaining specialist vehicle systems (e.g., wheelchair lifts, air conditioning, telematics).
