Sutton
Are you a resilient and empathetic professional dedicated to transforming the educational experience for students with complex needs?
Do you possess the de-escalation expertise and emotional intelligence required to support learners in a specialist SEN environment?
Are you seeking a full-time, long-term role within a Sutton-based SEN school that champions inclusive growth and student empowerment?
We are seeking a proactive and compassionate Behavioural Support Assistant to join a highly regarded SEN school in Sutton. This role is specifically designed for an individual who thrives in a specialist setting, working with students who have Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, Autism (ASD), or other complex learning difficulties. You will be a vital pillar of support, helping students manage their emotions, engage with their learning, and build the social skills necessary for a successful future.
Your Responsibilities
- Crisis Intervention: Utilise positive de-escalation techniques (such as Team Teach or Price) to support students during moments of crisis, ensuring a safe environment for all.
- 1:1 Mentoring: Work closely with assigned students to identify behavioural triggers and implement bespoke "Positive Behaviour Support" (PBS) plans.
- Social & Emotional Learning: Lead small-group interventions focused on emotional regulation, social cues, and conflict resolution.
- Classroom Integration: Support the class teacher in delivering a modified curriculum, ensuring that lessons are accessible and engaging for students with sensory or cognitive barriers.
- Progress Tracking: Maintain detailed records of student behaviour and emotional wellbeing, providing high-quality feedback to the SENCO, therapists, and parents.
- Holistic Support: Assist with students' personal development, including building self-esteem, life skills, and independent living strategies.
What You'll Bring to the Team
- Experience: Prior experience working with children or young adults with SEN or SEMH needs is essential. This could be in a school, residential care, youth work, or a similar setting.
- Resilience: The ability to remain calm, patient, and professional under pressure, showing a "no-excuses" commitment to student support.
- Specialist Training: Certifications in de-escalation (e.g., Team Teach, Step-On) are highly desirable, though training can often be provided for the right candidate.
- Empathy & Authority: The rare ability to build deep, trusting rapport with vulnerable students while maintaining firm, clear professional boundaries.
- Compliance: An enhanced Child & Adult DBS on the Update Service (or a willingness to process a new one via Randstad).
