Principal Social Worker - DoLS Team (Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards)
Location: RCT CBC (supporting Merthyr Tydfil CBC)
Contract Type: Temporary, with potential for long-term or permanent placement
Role Summary:
We are seeking an experienced Principal Social Worker to join the DoLS Team, supporting the Supervisory Body functions within Rhondda Cynon Taf and Merthyr Tydfil. The successful candidate will lead on quality assurance, coordination of assessments, and legal liaison, playing a vital role in safeguarding individuals' rights under the Mental Capacity Act.
Key Responsibilities:
- Receive, triage, and priorities Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (DoLS) applications
- Request and follow up on additional information from referrers and care providers
- Liaise with care homes and providers to promote DoLS awareness and compliance with legislation
- Work collaboratively with local authority teams, legal services, and care managers on urgent or complex cases
- Manage and maintain DoLS databases and tracking systems to ensure timely processing
- Commission, scrutinize, and provide feedback on Best Interests Assessments and Medical Assessments
- Ensure all reports meet required legal standards, are GDPR compliant, and adopt a person-centered approach
- Participate in team administration, including preparation of documentation for consultees
- Provide operational support and deputies for the DoLS Coordinator and Principal Social Workers as needed
Qualifications and Experience:
- Qualified and practicing Best Interests Assessor (BIA)
- Significant experience working with a range of adult service user groups and applying DoLS in practice
- Experience managing Supervisory Body functions, assessments, and quality control of reports
- Knowledge of Court of Protection processes
- Understanding of Welsh legislation, NHS Wales, and local government structures (desirable)
- Awareness of Welsh culture and communities (desirable)
