Ipswich
Are you ready to show students that coding, gaming, and digital literacy are the ultimate tools for independence?
Can you take the complex world of Computer Science and translate it into an accessible, sensory-friendly, and high-energy learning experience for students who think outside the box?
We are seeking an innovative Qualified Computer Science Teacher to join a wonderful SEN School in Ipswich for an immediate start. This isn't just a standard teaching role; it's an opportunity to lead a digital revolution within an SEN setting. You will be working with students who have Autism (ASC), Moderate to Severe Learning Difficulties (MLD/SLD), and sensory processing needs, helping them navigate the digital world safely and creatively.
Your Responsibilities
- Adaptive Curriculum Delivery: Design and teach "small-step" Computer Science lessons, covering everything from basic hardware identification to introductory coding and game design.
- Assistive Tech Integration: Utilise and teach students how to use specialised hardware and software to bypass barriers to learning and communication.
- Digital Safety Leadership: Provide vital education on e-safety, cyber-bullying, and responsible internet use, tailored specifically for vulnerable learners.
- Vocational Pathways: Prepare older students for entry-level ICT qualifications or functional skills, providing them with tangible tools for post-school life.
- EHCP Milestone Tracking: Work with the Class Teacher to observe and evidence progress toward Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) targets.
- Classroom Team Leadership: Manage a dedicated team of Teaching Assistants to ensure every student receives the 1:1 support they need to succeed.
What You'll Bring to the Team
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS): Mandatory. We welcome applications from secondary specialists or primary teachers with a high level of IT proficiency.
- Creative Pedagogy: The ability to make abstract concepts (like binary or loops) concrete through "unplugged" activities and sensory-rich resources.
- Resilient Patience: A calm, co-regulating presence that can pivot a lesson plan instantly to meet a student's emotional or sensory needs.
- Immediate Availability: The school is looking for someone to hit the ground running ASAP.
- Compliance: An enhanced Child DBS on the Update Service (or a willingness to process one urgently through Randstad).
