Randstad have partnered with a leading UK infrastructure, construction, and property services company to join them on a freelance basis working on a large residential scheme in Leeds.
The Role:
We are seeking a Design Manager to oversee all design and technical aspects of projects, ensuring delivery within budget and program. You'll manage external consultants, communicate effectively with internal teams and partners, and ensure designs are fully coordinated and compliant with company requirements and current regulations to achieve necessary approvals.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct technical design management, ensuring targets are met and maximum revenue is generated through quality, cost-effectiveness, and buildability.
- Review and input into bids, assessing design information, requirements, compliance, and identifying value engineering opportunities and risks.
- Produce and manage project-specific design programs, reporting on progress.
- Procure consultant and subcontractor designers, assessing their competency.
- Manage consultant fees and invoicing.
- Thoroughly review and interrogate consultant and subcontractor designs for compliance, buildability, completeness, and risk elimination.
- Manage and coordinate external consultants to ensure high standards and delivery within time, quality, and budget constraints.
Qualifications:
- Essential:
- Up-to-date knowledge of construction industry legislation and procedures.
- Valid driving license.
- Knowledge of construction project methodology and sequencing, including design and pre-construction.
- High-rise development experience.
- Understanding of the building safety legislative framework (Building Safety Act, Building Regulations, HRB Procedure Regulations).
- Strong technical knowledge to assess, challenge, and monitor design compliance.
- Experience in designer scoping.
Desirable:
- Knowledge of PAS9980, EWS1s, and FRAEW.
- Temporary works knowledge.
- Experience with CAD (AutoCAD or Revit) and BIM.
- Member of a relevant professional body (e.g., CIOB, CIAT, RICS).
- Minimum Level 4 (HNC/NVQ4 etc.) Architectural or equivalent design/technical/construction qualification.
