Calderdale Council is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Specialist Practitioner to join our Early Discharge Team (EDT), specifically working as an Approved Mental Health Professional (AMHP) within children's services. This is a challenging and rewarding role for a social worker with expertise in child mental health and safeguarding.

Provide specialist assessment and intervention for children and young people with complex mental health needs within the EDT setting.

Undertake comprehensive assessments to determine the appropriate level of care and support.
Prepare and present cases to Mental Health Review Tribunals (MHRT) and other relevant bodies as required.
Act as a lead professional in cases requiring expertise in child and adolescent mental health.
Work collaboratively with multi-agency partners (health professionals, educational staff, social workers) to coordinate care and ensure seamless transitions.
Provide expert advice and guidance to colleagues within the EDT and wider children's services.
Contribute to service development and improvement initiatives within the team.
Requirements:
Registered with Social Care England.
Minimum 3 years' post-qualification experience as a qualified Social Worker. Significant experience as an AMHP, ideally within children's services, is essential.
In-depth knowledge and understanding of the Mental Health Act 1983 and relevant legislation concerning children and young people.
Expertise in child and adolescent mental health, including assessment and intervention strategies.
Excellent communication, report writing and decision-making skills.
Ability to work effectively under pressure and manage complex cases.
