The Role
This is a full-time English Teacher position starting ASAP. The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering English GCSE and Functional Skills to learners aged 16-24. These students often have Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) or high needs, meaning the role requires a specialist focus on Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND). The primary goal is to enhance employment opportunities and academic progression for those who may have been disengaged from education. You will work in a setting with small class sizes and high staff-to-student ratios, allowing for truly personalised and life-changing instruction.
The Setting
Located in Leeds, this school is a dedicated pathway within a large further education provider. It focuses on Future Pathways a tiered curriculum designed specifically for students with SEND, SEMH (Social, Emotional, and Mental Health) needs, or those who have missed prolonged periods of education. The campus features specialist facilities, including an oasis room and intervention spaces, all designed to create a secure, welcoming, and restorative learning environment.
Requirements
... - Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or an equivalent recognised teaching qualification.
- An Enhanced DBS on the update service (or willingness to apply for one).
- Up-to-date understanding of GCSE and Functional Skills frameworks.
- Eligibility to work in the UK.

Key Responsibilities
- Plan and Deliver: Create engaging schemes of work for GCSE English and Functional Skills tailored to SEND learners.
- Set SMART Targets: Establish individual learning goals linked to student study programmes and EHCP outcomes.
- Track Progress: Maintain accurate and detailed records of student achievement and attendance.
- Adapt Curriculum: Use innovative, evidence-based methods to make English accessible to diverse learners.
- Provide Pastoral Support: Act as a mentor, supporting the personal and social development of young people.
- Collaborate: Work closely with Job Coaches and the Care Team to ensure a holistic approach to student success.
- Incorporate Technology: Utilise digital tools to enhance engagement and support different learning styles.
- Manage Environment: Foster a classroom culture based on mutual respect, de-escalation, and positivity.
- Assess & Feedback: Provide constructive, timely feedback that builds student confidence and attainment.
- Safeguarding: Actively promote the welfare of vulnerable young adults in line with statutory guidance.
