We are seeking a dynamic and intellectually driven English Teacher for a full-time, long-term temporary position at our partner secondary school in Battersea. This role is ideal for a specialist who thrives on delivering engaging, high-energy lessons that challenge students to think critically, write persuasively, and speak with confidence. Starting as soon as possible or in September, this role offers the stability of a full-time schedule within a supportive and forward-thinking department.
Your Responsibilities
- Literary Excellence: Plan and deliver high-quality lessons across KS3 and KS4, exploring a diverse range of texts including Shakespeare, 19th-century fiction, and modern poetry.
- GCSE Strategy: Lead Year 11 cohorts through the complexities of English Language and Literature exam specifications, utilizing precise data tracking to provide targeted interventions.
- Analytical Inquiry: Foster a classroom environment where students deconstruct layers of meaning, evaluate writer's craft, and formulate sophisticated evidence-based arguments.
- Creative Expression: Inspire students to develop their own unique voices through creative writing, debating, and structured oracy tasks.
- Inclusive Scaffolding: Differentiate complex literary concepts to ensure all learners-regardless of ability or background-can access and enjoy the curriculum.
- Collaborative Growth: Participate in departmental moderation, resource sharing, and the development of innovative schemes of work that reflect the diversity of the Battersea community.
What You'll Bring to the Team
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) / QTLS: Mandatory. A degree in English Literature, Language, or a related discipline.
