The Role:
As a Groundworks Quantity Surveyor, you will be responsible for all commercial aspects of our substantial groundwork schemes from inception to final account. Your key responsibilities will include:
- Preparing accurate cost estimates and tenders for groundwork packages.
- Managing and administering sub-contractor accounts, including valuations, payments, and final accounts.
- Conducting detailed cost analysis, identifying variations, and implementing effective cost control measures.
- Preparing and submitting interim valuations and final accounts for clients.
- Proactively identifying and managing commercial risks and opportunities.
- Developing and maintaining strong relationships with clients, sub-contractors, and internal teams.
- Providing sound commercial advice and support to project managers and site teams.
- Ensuring compliance with contractual obligations and company procedures.
- Attending site meetings and engaging in collaborative problem-solving.
About You:
- Proven experience as a Quantity Surveyor with a significant focus on groundworks, earthworks, drainage, and foundations.
- Ideally, experience working for a Tier 1 main contractor or a substantial groundwork sub-contractor.
- A relevant degree in Quantity Surveying or Commercial Management (or equivalent experience).
- Demonstrable experience with various forms of contract (e.g., JCT, NEC).
- Strong commercial acumen and negotiation skills.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and client-facing abilities.
- Proficient in relevant software (e.g., MS Office Suite, ideally specific QS software).
- A meticulous eye for detail and a highly organised approach to work.
- Ability to work autonomously and as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
- Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel to various sites across Devon as required.
