Ipswich
Are you a Science Teacher who can transform a complex theory into a hands-on sensory experience?
We are seeking a dynamic and resilient Qualified Science Teacher (QTS) to lead Key Stage 3 Science at our partner SEN School in Ipswich. This role is designed for an educator who understands that for students with Autism (ASC) and Moderate Learning Difficulties (MLD), the best way to learn the laws of the universe is by touching, seeing, and doing. You will be the lead voice for Years 7, 8, and 9, sparking curiosity in a laboratory environment that prioritises safety, engagement, and "small-step" success.
Your Strategic Impact: Responsibilities
- Adaptive Science Pedagogy: Take core KS3 Science concepts (Biology, Chemistry, and Physics) and translate them into highly visual, sensory-rich experiments that meet EHCP outcomes.
- Laboratory Safety Leadership: Maintain a high-standard, low-arousal lab environment, ensuring all practical experiments are risk-assessed and accessible for students with sensory processing needs.
- Inquiry-Based Learning: Foster a "What happens if...?" culture, using hands-on kits, interactive software, and outdoor nature trails to teach the scientific method.
- Total Communication Science: Expertly use Makaton, visual symbols, and simplified glossaries to ensure that complex scientific vocabulary is accessible to every learner.
- Multi-Agency Collaboration: Work alongside the school's therapeutic team to ensure that sensory diets and regulation strategies are integrated into every practical lesson.
- TA Team Management: Lead a team of specialised TAs, ensuring they are confident in supporting students during live experiments and recording "small-step" observations.
What You'll Bring to the Team
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS): Mandatory. A degree in a Science subject (Biology, Chemistry, Physics, or General Science) is highly desirable.
- SEN Expertise: Proven experience (or a strong commitment to learning) how to adapt secondary-level Science for neurodiverse learners.
- Resilient Curiosity: The ability to remain calm and encouraging when experiments don't go to plan, turning every moment into a learning opportunity.
- Practical Innovation: A knack for creating DIY "Kitchen Science" experiments that make abstract concepts like forces or chemical reactions tangible.
- Compliance: An enhanced Child DBS on the Update Service (or a willingness to process a new one urgently via Randstad).
