The Gateshead Council Learning & Disability Team is seeking highly skilled, motivated, and experienced Registered Social Workers to join our team on a flexible, high-demand basis. This exceptional hourly rate reflects the need for professionals who can quickly step into complex case management and provide expert support to vulnerable adults and their families across the borough.
The Role: Impact and Expertise
You will manage a varied and challenging caseload, focusing on strengths-based, person-centred social work within the Learning & Disability sector. Key responsibilities include:
Complex Case Management: Undertaking statutory social work duties, including assessment, planning, and review for adults with learning disabilities.
Safeguarding: Leading on safeguarding enquiries, risk assessments, and protection plans to ensure the safety and well-being of service users.
Resource Allocation: Conducting Care Act assessments, determining eligibility, and facilitating access to appropriate services, including complex packages of care.
Multi-Agency Working: Effectively liaising with health partners (e.g., psychiatrists, nurses), housing, police, and independent sector providers to deliver coordinated care.
Mental Capacity: Conducting detailed Mental Capacity Assessments and best interest decisions where required.
What We Require
Qualification: A recognised Social Work qualification (e.g., Degree in Social Work, DipSW, CQSW).
Registration: Current and valid registration with Social Work England (SWE).
Experience: Significant post-qualifying experience, ideally within an Adult Social Care or Learning & Disability setting.
Commitment: The ability to hit the ground running, manage a demanding workload, and commit to the Council's values.
Drive: Proven ability to work autonomously and make robust professional judgements.
