Our Alternative Provision Academy provides a highly supported, personalised learning environment for students aged 5 to 16 who are currently unable to attend mainstream education. We are urgently seeking Learning Mentors to join our crucial team across the Plymouth.
Learning Mentors are the bedrock of our model. You will work one-to-one with pupils, providing the intensive, tailored academic and pastoral support they need to re-engage with education, build essential life skills, and successfully transition back to mainstream or long-term education settings.
Your Impact: What You'll Be Doing
As a vital positive influence, your focus will be on the pupil's holistic development, using our core ethos: Ready - Respectful - Safe.
Intensive 1:1 Support: Deliver bespoke academic and pastoral assistance to address complex issues hindering a pupil's learning.
Behaviour & Emotional Coaching: Help pupils develop effective coping strategies to reflect on their actions, manage their emotions, and make positive choices.
Aspirational Guidance: Provide tailored academic support to raise aspirations and encourage students to set high goals for their future.
Home-School Partnership: Collaborate with families to stabilise behaviour and engagement within the home environment.
Life Skills Development: Build strong, positive relationships and conduct weekly educational and recreational trips (e.g., park, cinema, zoo) to develop essential real-world skills.

Essential Qualities & Requirements
Experience: Previous experience working with young people, particularly those with additional needs or challenging behaviour, is highly beneficial.
Core Skills: Exceptional communication skills, high resilience, and a profound desire to make a difference are non-negotiable.
Formal Education: GCSEs in English and Maths, or equivalent experience, are typically expected.
Logistics: A full driving license and access to reliable transport may be necessary for some roles.
