Full-Time 1:1 Support | Secondary School in Romford | ASAP Start
A dedicated and supportive secondary school in Romford requires an experienced and highly resilient Learning Support Assistant (LSA) for a crucial 1:1 support role. This role will be based in the school SEN provision. This is a five-day-a-week contract position requiring an ASAP start.
This role involves supporting a specific non-verbal student who requires expert communication strategies and proactive behavioural management.
You will be responsible for providing intensive, personalised support to a student with significant Special Educational Needs who is non-verbal and may present with challenging behaviour, including instances of lashing out or aggression.
Key Responsibilities:
... 1:1 Support: Provide consistent, dedicated support throughout the school day, assisting the student in accessing the curriculum and navigating the school environment.
Non-Verbal Communication: Effectively implement and utilise Alternative and Augmentative Communication (AAC) strategies (e.g., PECS, signs, visual schedules) to understand the student's needs, wants, and triggers.
Behaviour Management & De-escalation: Proactively identify triggers and implement effective de-escalation processes to manage and safely minimise aggressive behaviour, maintaining a calm and safe environment for the student and peers.
Emotional Regulation: Support the student in developing independent emotional regulation skills and coping strategies.
Documentation: Maintain accurate, detailed records of incidents, strategies used, and progress made, feeding back critical information to the SENCo and outside agencies.

Essential Candidate Requirements
Experience is Mandatory: Demonstrable, recent experience working 1:1 with young people who are non-verbal and present with high-level challenging behaviour or aggression (e.g., in a PRU, specialist school, or complex needs setting).
De-escalation Expertise: Proven knowledge and application of recognised de-escalation techniques and positive handling strategies (e.g., Team Teach, MAPA, or similar training is highly desirable).
Resilience & Patience: Exceptional levels of patience, emotional resilience, and the ability to remain calm and consistent in high-pressure situations.
Commitment: Available full-time (5 days a week) for an ASAP start on a contract basis.
