Are you a dedicated and innovative Maths Teacher with a genuine passion for supporting students with Special Educational Needs? A new, independent specialist school in the beautiful Dorking area is seeking an enthusiastic individual to join their founding team. This is a unique and exciting opportunity to make a significant impact in a nurturing and therapeutic learning environment.
Our school, opening in September 2025, will cater for pupils aged 7-14 (initially, with plans to extend to 16) who have a primary diagnosis of Autism and/or Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. We are committed to providing a holistic and personalised education, reigniting a love for learning and empowering our students to achieve their full potential. About the Role:
As a Maths Teacher, you will play a pivotal role in developing and delivering an engaging and accessible Maths curriculum tailored to the individual needs of our students across Key Stages 2, 3 and, in time, Key Stage 4. You will be adept at differentiating instruction and employing creative teaching strategies to ensure all students can progress and experience success.
Key Responsibilities:
... - Plan, prepare, and deliver high-quality, differentiated Maths lessons that inspire and motivate students with diverse learning needs.
- Develop and adapt curriculum content to meet the specific requirements of students with SEN, including Autism and SEMH difficulties.
- Utilise a range of assessment methods to monitor student progress, provide constructive feedback, and inform future planning.
- Create a positive, supportive, and well-managed classroom environment that promotes student engagement and wellbeing.
- Work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team, including therapists, teaching assistants, and other specialists, to support student development.
- Contribute to the development of Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and support strategies.
- Foster a love of mathematics throughout the school and contribute to wider school initiatives.
- Maintain accurate records and communicate effectively with parents, carers, and external agencies.
- Commit to ongoing professional development and contribute to the school's inclusive and aspirational culture.
The Ideal Candidate Will Have:
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent.
- A strong background in teaching Mathematics, ideally across KS2, KS3 and KS4.
- Proven experience and a genuine passion for working effectively with students with Special Educational Needs, particularly those with Autism and/or SEMH needs.
- A demonstrable ability to differentiate teaching and learning to meet a wide range of needs.
- Excellent classroom management skills, with a patient, empathetic, and resilient approach.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, staff, parents, and the wider community.
- A creative and flexible approach to teaching and problem-solving.
- A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
- An enthusiasm for contributing to the development of a new school and its unique ethos.
