Mathematics Specialist Teacher - SEMH/SEND Focus
Location: Woking
Student Age Range: 11-17 years
Are you a passionate and dedicated Mathematics specialist who believes in teaching the child, not just the subject?
Are you skilled in building nurturing relationships and inspiring young people with complex needs?
...
If so, we want to hear from you.
We are an independent specialist school committed to providing high-quality, therapeutic, and child-centred education for pupils with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. Many of our students also have other Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), such as Autism, ADHD, and communication difficulties. Our approach is trauma and attachment-informed, ensuring all staff receive extensive therapeutic training and support. We pride ourselves on a collaborative environment where education and therapy professionals, parents/carers, local authorities, and, most importantly, our students, work together to achieve outstanding outcomes.
The Role:
We are seeking a dynamic Mathematics specialist to join our dedicated team. In this role, you will be central to knowing each child, fostering positive relationships, and motivating students to engage with their learning. You will deliver Mathematics curricula spanning Entry Level, Functional Skills, Key Stage 3, and GCSE. While you will be a Mathematics specialist, you will also benefit from the support of national subject champions who can assist in tailoring learning for the specific needs of our students.
Key responsibilities include:
- Inspiring children by creating a sense of awe and wonder, making Mathematics real and relevant.
- Planning and delivering exciting, engaging, and challenging learning opportunities that cater to diverse abilities, from foundational skills to special talents.
- Managing complex and challenging behaviours with understanding, consistency, and a non-judgemental approach, recognizing our students' need for significant attention and appropriate communication.
- Contributing to the ongoing development of our academic curriculum and extra-curricular activities, bringing your own interests and passions to enrich our students' experience.
- Being an active part of the decision-making processes that drive our school forward and advocate for every child.
Who We Are Looking For:
- A qualified teacher with a specialism in Mathematics.
- An individual who is, first and foremost, a teacher of children, with a deep understanding of how to build positive and nurturing professional relationships.
- Experience or a strong interest in working with children with SEMH and SEND.
- The ability to manage complex and challenging behaviours effectively and empathetically.
- A commitment to a non-judgemental and flexible approach, understanding the unique needs of each student.
- A proactive and collaborative team player, keen to contribute to the wider school community and curriculum development.
Why Join Us?
This is a unique opportunity to make a significant impact on the lives of vulnerable young people within a supportive and forward-thinking environment. We offer:
- Extensive training and professional qualification opportunities to enhance your skills.
- Small class sizes with dedicated specialist Teaching Assistant support.
- The chance to be part of an expanding, national organisation that values skill, effort, and potential, actively growing its own leadership teams.
- An enhanced occupational sickness scheme.
- Regular therapeutic and supportive supervision to ensure your wellbeing and professional growth.
- A life assurance scheme.
- Engagement and retention budgets for every staff member.
- Cashback for various medical appointments and treatments, including optical and dental, through MediCash.
- The opportunity to win up to £150 per month in our REACH awards.
