Location: Rural Surrey (Caterham / Chaldon area) Salary: Paid to Scale (MPS/UPS) + SEN Allowance Contract: Permanent, Full-Time | Start: ASAP
Are you the teacher in your mainstream school who "just gets" the students with ASC?
You know the ones: the students who struggle with the loud hallways, the rigid transitions, and the pressure of a 30-person classroom. If you find your most rewarding moments are spent adapting your lessons for high-needs learners or managing complex behaviours with empathy, it's time to move into an environment designed for those students-and for you.
The Shift from Mainstream to Specialist
In this role, you leave the "one-size-fits-all" approach at the door. You will lead a small nurture group of secondary students with Autism (ASC) and associated challenging behaviours.
Primary-Style Delivery: Use your QTS to deliver a creative, cross-curricular "nurture" model within a secondary setting.
Focus on the Child, Not the Data: Prioritise Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) milestones alongside academic progress.
Expert Support: Work in a therapeutic environment where you have immediate access to on-site specialists, rather than waiting months for an external referral.
What You'll Need
QTS (Qualified Teacher Status): Essential. We value your mainstream experience and pedagogical foundation.
SEN Experience: You must have a proven track record of supporting students with Autism and managing challenging behaviour within a mainstream or specialist setting.
A Vehicle: Our beautiful, calm location is a sanctuary for our students, but it's rural! A full driving license and access to a car are essential.
The "Nurture" Mindset: The ability to remain calm, consistent, and resilient when a student is having a difficult day.
Why Make the Move?
Scale Pay: We match your current MPS/UPS and add a dedicated SEN Allowance.
Professional Development: Transitioning to SEN is a major career milestone; we provide the specialist ASC and de-escalation training to get you there.
Impact: See the immediate, daily difference you make when a student finally feels "understood."
Take the Next Step
If you're ready to trade the 30-pupil classroom for a high-impact, nurturing environment, we want to hear from you.
