Randstad Education is seeking a compassionate and resilient Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) Teaching Assistant for a rewarding role in a supportive primary school in the Huddersfield area. We are looking for someone to provide vital support to pupils who have a range of SEMH needs.
Key Responsibilities:
As an SEMH Teaching Assistant, your role will be instrumental in ensuring a pupil's well-being and progress. You will be responsible for:
Emotional Support: Providing consistent emotional and pastoral support, acting as a trusted adult and mentor for pupils.
Behavioural Support: Using your skills in de-escalation and positive behaviour management to help pupils regulate their emotions and make positive choices.
Implementing Support Plans: Working closely with the class teacher and SENCO to implement bespoke support plans and strategies for individual pupils.
Building Relationships: Fostering strong, trusting relationships with pupils to create a secure and stable presence in their school day.
Fostering Independence: Guiding pupils to develop self-awareness and coping mechanisms, helping them build the skills they need to succeed in the future.
Collaboration: Liaising with parents, teachers, and external professionals to ensure a cohesive and supportive network for the pupil.
Requirements:
To be successful in this unique and rewarding role, you must have:
Proven experience working with children with SEMH needs or challenging behaviour in an educational or care setting.
A compassionate, highly resilient, and patient nature is essential.
An Enhanced Child DBS on the update service (or be willing to apply for a new one).
The legal right to work in the UK without any restrictions.
Specific training in areas such as Team Teach, Youth Mental Health First Aid, or similar de-escalation techniques is highly desirable.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
A genuine passion for supporting vulnerable pupils and making a lasting, positive impact.
