If you are interested in becoming a painter, a university degree or an apprenticeship is a great place to begin. For information on the qualifications and relevant education needed for the role, see the 'education and qualifications' section of our painter job profile.
To become a painter or decorator, take a college course like a Level 2 or 3 diploma in painting and decorating or a T Level in on-site construction. Alternatively, join a painter intermediate apprenticeship, which usually takes two to three years and involves 30 hours a week of on-the-job training.
