Responsibilities:
- The most crucial duty involves protecting children and young people who are at risk of harm, abuse, or neglect. This includes: Investigating child protection concerns reported via the Single Access Point.
- Undertaking initial screening and referral discussions (IRD) with partner agencies (Police, Health).
- Carrying out assessments of risk and need.
- Implementing and monitoring Child's Plans.
- Fulfilling statutory duties relating to children who are looked after by the local authority, including those in foster care or residential placements, to ensure they are well looked after and achieve positive outcomes.
- Recruiting, assessing, and supporting foster carers and adoptive parents to provide stable, loving homes for vulnerable children.
- Providing support and assistance to children who are being cared for by extended family members or family friends.
- Providing a range of support to children and families who are struggling to cope. This often involves:
- Working directly with the whole family in various settings.
- Offering practical assistance, advocacy, guidance, and advice.
- Helping families build parenting skills and confidence.
- Establishing routines and building life skills.
- Identifying needs and providing support at the earliest opportunity to prevent issues from escalating. This is a priority area to safeguard and support the wellbeing of children.
- Undertaking assessments (often using a relationship and strengths-based model like 'Signs of Safety' ) to identify the support required for children and their families.
- Working with partner services, such as Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS), to address the mental health and wellbeing needs of young people.
- Collaborating closely with other professionals and agencies, including schools (Named Persons/Head Teachers), health services (NHS), Police Scotland, and third-sector organisations, to deliver integrated services and share relevant information legally and transparently.
- Working in partnership to implement a child's plan and monitoring/contributing to its evaluation.
Requirements:
- Social Work Degree
- SSSC registration
- PVG
