We are delighted to offer an excellent Locum Social Work opportunity within a Family Support & Protection Team based in Carlisle. You will be joining a stable, supportive service committed to delivering high-quality, relationship-based social work to children who require ongoing intervention to stay safe, thrive, and reach their potential.
This role offers the chance to work alongside experienced managers and contribute to the continued development of the service. You will be encouraged to share your expertise, support colleagues, and champion reflective, strengths-based practice across the team. Cumberland is focused on continuous improvement, and your input will help shape and maintain strong standards of practice.
- £45 per hour
- £100 towards expenses per week
- Hybrid Working - 2 days WFH & 3 days in office

Responsibilities
- Holding and managing a caseload of children requiring long-term social work intervention
- Completing high-quality assessments, Child and Family Plans, CIN, CP, and court work as required
- Implementing effective and proportionate safety planning and interventions
- Working collaboratively with multi-agency partners to ensure the best outcomes for children
- Building strong, trusting relationships with children and families to support meaningful and sustainable change
- Ensuring children are safeguarded through timely, evidence-based decisions and interventions
To be considered for the role, ideally you will have:
- Current Social Work England (SWE) registration
- BA/BSc in Social Work or equivalent qualification
- 3 years + experience within Family Support & Protection / Child in Need / Child Protection / Court Work
- Confidence working in a statutory setting with complex family needs
- Strong assessment, communication, and relationship-building skills
- A commitment to modelling excellent practice and contributing to a positive team culture
