About the Role:
You'll play a vital role in meeting the physical, emotional, social, health, and educational needs of young people. This includes:
- Providing tailored support with daily living skills, learning, and overall development.
- Building safe, trusting relationships and acting as a positive role model.
- Creating and implementing care plans and risk assessments.
- Engaging young people in stimulating activities and maintaining a clean, secure environment.
- Upholding safety protocols, de-escalating conflicts, and responding to challenging behaviours.
- Championing young people's rights and encouraging their participation in decisions.
- Supporting educational attendance and working collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams.
- Maintaining accurate records and adhering to best practices in trauma-sensitive and attachment-informed care.
- Participating in on-call sleep-in duties, training, and other essential tasks.
Who We're Looking For:
We're seeking empathetic, resilient individuals who understand the needs of young people and are committed to high standards of care.
Essential Requirements:
- Understanding of young people's needs, trauma, and child development.
- Awareness of SSSC Code of Conduct.
- Ability to undertake HNC + SVQ 3 Social Care and training in behaviour management/physical intervention.
- Experience working with young people (voluntary/employment capacity) and in teamwork.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organisational skills.
- Empathy, patience, and the ability to cope with challenging situations.
- Strong record-keeping and report-writing skills.
- Resilience, self-motivation, and a flexible approach to work schedules.
- A positive role model with strong personal and professional qualities.
- Full Manual Driving Licence.
Desirable Skills & Experience:
- Experience in residential childcare (e.g., secure accommodation).
- Knowledge of Trauma-Informed practice, Attachment theory, Child protection protocols, and relevant childcare legislation.
- Experience in writing reports/plans for young people and external agencies.
- Leisure/Recreation qualifications.
