Job Overview:

The London Borough of Sutton is looking for an experienced Social Worker to join the First Contact Team on a locum basis. The successful candidate will be the first point of contact for referrals into children's services, carrying out timely assessments and ensuring appropriate interventions are made to safeguard and support children and families.

Key Responsibilities:

• Respond to incoming contacts and referrals, gathering relevant information to determine appropriate levels of intervention.

• Complete initial assessments and safeguarding checks within statutory timescales.

• Work closely with families, schools, health professionals, and other partners to ensure coordinated service delivery.

• Apply knowledge of relevant legislation, including the Children Act 1989, Working Together to Safeguard Children, and local safeguarding procedures.

• Maintain accurate and timely case records using the local authority's case management system.

• Participate in team meetings, supervision, and contribute to service development.

Requirements:

• Qualified Social Worker with Social Work England registration.

• Minimum of 2 years' experience in frontline children's services, ideally within a MASH, First Contact, or Assessment team.

• Strong understanding of thresholds, safeguarding, and early intervention processes.

• Ability to manage a high volume of work while maintaining quality and compliance.
