Service Area: Children's Services - Assessment and Safeguarding (SAS)
Job Purpose:
To carry out high-quality statutory social work within the Assessment and Safeguarding Team, ensuring the welfare and protection of children and young people in Hartlepool. The role involves completing assessments, managing child protection and children in need plans, and taking appropriate action to safeguard children in line with legislation and council policies.
Key Responsibilities:
Undertake assessments under Section 17 and Section 47 of the Children Act 1989.
Carry out timely and effective interventions to safeguard children at risk of harm.
Manage a complex caseload, including children subject to child protection plans, children in need, and pre-proceedings work.
Prepare high-quality reports for conferences, reviews, and court proceedings.
Work in close partnership with families, schools, health services, police, and other agencies.
Contribute to case conferences, core groups, CIN reviews, and court hearings.
Maintain accurate, up-to-date, and high-quality case recording using the council's electronic case management system.
Participate in supervision and continuous professional development.
Essential Requirements:
Social Work qualification (BA/MA Social Work, DipSW, CQSW)
Registered with Social Work England
Post-qualified experience in frontline children's social work, preferably in an assessment/safeguarding setting
Strong knowledge of child protection legislation, statutory guidance, and safeguarding practices
Excellent communication, risk assessment, and decision-making skills
Ability to work independently and within a team to meet statutory deadlines
Desirable:
Experience working in a similar SAS or referral and assessment team
Knowledge of Hartlepool Borough Council's systems and local protocols
Familiarity with Liquidlogic or similar case management systems
