Are you a Science specialist who believes that the best way to learn is by doing?
Opened in September 2025, our brand-new SEND secondary school is looking for a Science Teacher. This is a rare chance to move away from the high-pressure "exam factory" model and instead build a laboratory environment where curiosity is the only requirement. You will design a bespoke Science curriculum for students (ages 11-16) with social communication, emotional regulation, and sensory needs.
Why this role is a "Catalyst" for your career:
If you're a mainstream Science teacher tired of managing 30+ students in a lab, or a SEND specialist looking for a fresh start, this role offers:
Lab Autonomy: As a founding member, you will lead the setup of our Science provision, choosing the equipment and experiments that best suit our students' sensory profiles.
Precision Teaching: Swap crowd control for high-impact, small-group sessions. With a supernumerary support team, you can actually focus on the "Aha!" moments.
Sensory Science: You'll have the freedom to adapt the National Curriculum into something tactile and visual-turning complex theories into manageable, engaging practicals.
Holistic Success: We measure progress by more than just grades. You'll work alongside therapists to ensure every student hits their EHCP targets and builds confidence.
Your Responsibilities
Curriculum Innovation: Deliver a high-quality Science curriculum (KS3/KS4) specifically adapted for students with Autism and complex learning needs.
Safety & Regulation: Maintain a safe, low-arousal learning environment using a non-confrontational, reflective approach to behaviour support.
Collaborative Planning: Work daily with a multi-disciplinary team of experts to ensure that sensory needs never get in the way of scientific discovery.
Strategic Growth: Act as the Subject Lead for Science, maintaining long-term plans that prepare students for the wider world.
About You
We are looking for a Science enthusiast who is as resilient as they are creative.
Essential Criteria:
QTS, PGCE, or equivalent.
Experience delivering a differentiated Science curriculum to pupils with SEND.
Strong knowledge of how to adapt lab practicals for students with sensory sensitivities.
Driving License: Essential due to our rural Chaldon location.
Desirable Criteria:
A postgraduate diploma in Autism.
Experience with students who present with challenging behaviours.
Join the Founding Team
Be there from the first day. Help us prove that Science isn't just a subject-it's a way for our students to understand and navigate the world around them.
