Design Your Career: Impact Without the AdminWe are seeking Qualified DT Teachers (QTS/ECTs) to provide specialist cover across a variety of secondary schools. Whether your expertise is in Resistant Materials, Graphics, or Systems and Control, this role allows you to focus on the "workshop" side of teaching-delivering high-impact practical lessons-without the burden of departmental data meetings or weekend marking.
- Practical Curriculum Mastery: Lead lessons across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4, covering everything from CAD/CAM and technical drawing to working with woods, metals, and plastics.
- Professional Variety: Experience different workshop facilities and technical departments, keeping your own skills sharp while building a diverse professional network.
- Work-Life Balance: Reclaim your evenings! Lead engaging, hands-on lessons during the day and leave the planning and parent consultations to the permanent staff.
- Weekly Pay: Competitive daily rates of £140 - £233, paid every Friday via Randstad.
As a Secondary DT Teacher, you are responsible for developing students' technical skills and their ability to solve real-world problems through the design process.
- Expert Lesson Delivery: Facilitate engaging practical workshops and theory sessions, encouraging students to think critically about materials, sustainability, and industrial processes.
- GCSE Focus: Support examination cohorts with targeted preparation for the NEA (Non-Examined Assessment), focusing on portfolio development and high-quality final outcomes.
- Health & Safety Management: Maintain a disciplined and safe workshop environment, ensuring all students follow strict safety protocols and handle tools and machinery with care.
- Adaptive Support: Differentiate technical tasks on the fly to support students with SEND or to stretch elite young designers aiming for top marks.
We are looking for articulate and passionate specialists who can foster a "culture of making" in the classroom. You are an ideal fit if you:
- Hold QTS: You have Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or an equivalent recognized teaching qualification (ECTs are highly encouraged to apply).
- Are a DT Specialist: You have a degree in Design, Engineering, or a related field, with a solid grasp of the KS3/KS4 National Curriculum.
- Are Safety-Conscious: You hold current DATA/machinery safety certificates and can confidently manage a busy workshop environment.
- Are Committed: You hold an enhanced DBS on the update service (or are willing to apply) and are 100% dedicated to Safeguarding.
Ready to inspire the next generation of engineers and designers while enjoying a career that works for you?
