Master the Past: Impact Without the AdminWe are seeking Qualified History Teachers (QTS/ECTs) to provide specialist cover across a variety of high-achieving and community-focused secondary schools. This role allows you to focus on the "chronology" of teaching-leading deep-dive debates and investigating historical evidence-without the burden of departmental data meetings or weekend marking.
- Broad Curriculum Mastery: Lead lessons across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4, covering everything from the Normans and the Tudors to the Cold War and Civil Rights.
- Professional Freedom: Experience different school cultures and pedagogical approaches, keeping your teaching practice fresh while building a diverse professional network.
- Work-Life Balance: Reclaim your evenings! Deliver high-impact, enquiry-based lessons during the day and leave the planning and parent consultations to the permanent staff.
- Weekly Pay: Competitive daily rates of £140 - £233, paid every Friday via Randstad.
As a Secondary History Teacher, you are responsible for developing students' ability to think critically about sources, interpretations, and the concept of change over time.
- Expert Lesson Delivery: Facilitate engaging analysis of primary and secondary sources, encouraging students to evaluate reliability, bias, and historical significance.
- GCSE & A-Level Focus: Support examination cohorts with targeted preparation, focusing on essay structure, thematic links, and the mastery of 12- and 16-mark evaluative questions.
- Classroom Authority: Maintain a vibrant and respectful environment where students feel safe to debate complex historical issues and explore diverse perspectives.
- Adaptive Support: Differentiate complex narratives and source materials on the fly to support students with SEND or EAL, ensuring the curriculum is accessible to all.
We are looking for articulate and passionate specialists who can ignite a "historical imagination" in the classroom. You are an ideal fit if you:
- Hold QTS: You have Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or an equivalent recognized teaching qualification (ECTs are highly encouraged to apply).
- Are a History Specialist: You have a degree in History or a related field, with a solid grasp of the KS3/KS4 National Curriculum.
- Are an Engaging Communicator: You can build rapport with teenagers quickly and use your passion for the past to spark their curiosity about the future.
- Are Committed: You hold an enhanced DBS on the update service (or are willing to apply) and are 100% dedicated to Safeguarding.
