Purfleet
Are you a motivated individual looking to inspire the next generation in the growing community of Purfleet?
Do you have the resilience to support secondary students through their academic and emotional development?
Whether you are a local graduate aiming for a career in teaching or an experienced mentor looking for a stable role in Thurrock, are you ready to make an impact?
We are seeking a dedicated Secondary Teaching Assistant to join our partner secondary schools in Purfleet-on-Thames. This role is vital for supporting students who require extra guidance to reach their full potential. You will work across a variety of subjects, supporting students with diverse needs-including those with SEN or those requiring additional literacy and numeracy support-ensuring that no child is left behind in the fast-paced secondary environment.
Your Responsibilities
- Academic Support: Work 1:1 or with small intervention groups to explain complex concepts, helping students complete tasks in subjects like English, Maths, and Science.
- Inclusion Focus: Assist students with Special Educational Needs (SEN), ensuring they can access the curriculum and participate fully in classroom activities.
- Behaviour Mentoring: Act as a positive role model, helping students stay focused and managing low-level disruptions according to the school's policy.
- Exam Access: Provide support during internal and external assessments, potentially acting as a reader or scribe for students with specific access arrangements.
- Social Development: Support students' emotional wellbeing, helping them build the confidence and "soft skills" necessary for life beyond school.
- Teacher Collaboration: Assist subject teachers in preparing resources and managing the classroom environment to ensure smooth lesson delivery.
What You'll Bring to the Team
- The Right Attitude: You must be proactive, adaptable, and possess a genuine desire to see young people succeed.
- Communication Skills: The ability to build rapport quickly with teenagers and explain information in a clear, relatable way.
- Resilience: A calm and patient demeanor, especially when supporting students who may find school challenging or frustrating.
- Educational Background: A strong standard of literacy and numeracy (Grade C/4 or above in GCSE English and Maths). A degree is preferred but not essential.
- Compliance: An enhanced Child DBS on the Update Service (or a willingness to process a new one via Randstad).
