Key Responsibilities:
As an SEMH Teaching Assistant, your role is crucial to the pupils' well-being and ability to learn. You will be responsible for:
Building Trust: Developing a strong, positive, and consistent relationship with pupils who have experienced emotional challenges.
De-escalation: Confidently and calmly managing emotional crises and challenging behaviour, helping pupils to self-regulate.
Emotional Support: Providing one-on-one pastoral care and acting as a key mentor for a pupil, ensuring they feel heard and understood.
Implementing Strategies: Working with the class teacher and therapeutic team to implement specific support plans and strategies.
Fostering Resilience: Empowering pupils to develop positive coping mechanisms and build the confidence to manage their feelings and interactions.
Team Collaboration: Contributing to a holistic support network by communicating effectively with teachers, parents, and external professionals.
Requirements:
To succeed in this unique and vital role, you must have:
Demonstrable experience working with children or young people with SEMH needs or challenging behaviour.
Experience in a specialist or alternative provision setting is highly desirable.
An Enhanced Child DBS on the update service (or be willing to apply for a new one).
The legal right to work in the UK without any restrictions.
Specific training in areas such as Team Teach, Team-up, or therapeutic approaches is a huge advantage.
A naturally calm, patient, and highly resilient nature.
